You must betray your heart and walk amongst the darkness in order to find the truest light. Opening her eyes to an imposing prison of complete darkness, Kasha is accused of possessing powers and abilities she had no previous knowledge of until the moment she comes face to face with herself while meditating. Haunted by memories strung together by lies and deceit, she soon discovers that maybe her beloved grandmother kept a few secrets she hadn't been aware of. Secrets that could be her salvation... or her undoing. As she struggles to control her newfound powers, only time will tell if they will be enough to help her decipher who has imprisoned her or what they want from her. She must search for the answers and the freedom she so desperately desires. Could a handsome guy who vows to help her get away prove to be the man of her dreams... or perhaps her worst nightmare? Not knowing who to trust, she must find a way to escape before she pays the ultimate price and finds herself taken by the darkness.
I've never felt so claustrophobic in my life, and I wasn't even there. The vivid imagery that Starr describes is incredible. If I was Kasha, I would have gone insane in one day of pure darkness. Right away I felt that something was amiss, but you don't find out right away, you sit on the edge of your seat waiting to know what Kasha's secret is. And then we meet Kaden, and then Graven, and I could care less what Kasha's abilities are. Talk about hot men, and she has two vying for her attention. Even if one only comes to her in her dreams, it's enough to make anyone pray to the sandman! You know Graven is dangerous, the question is does Kasha follow what her Grams told her to do, or does she do what feels right? With sex on a stick claiming he was destined to save her, and two older sisters with powers of their own wanting to help, Gram may roll over in her grave with the decisions Kasha makes. Will Kasha get free? Does Graven save her? What will Kasha do when she gets a blast from the past? Who the freak knows cause this one ends with a cliffy! I will impatiently wait for the next installment (I guess).
Dangerous pacts are made while magic and darkness are lurking around every corner. Even those with the purest intentions must make tainted choices to protect the ones they love.
Warning: This book is meant to be read after Taken, there are spoilers in this book.
In this novella, we get to see a little prequel to Kasha's abduction. But, we see most of it from Gram's POV. We learn about her abilities and what everyone believes Kasha is capable of. We get to see Gram in her element, and in her true form. I must admit that in this book, I started to question the first book. Now my brain has no idea who to trust anymore!! It is heartbreaking to witness Gram's death, both from Gram's POV and Kasha's. This book only left me with more questions and a desperate need for the next installment. Great fast and easy read.
