Review: Night Visions

Night Visions
Night Visions by Elena Gray

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I've seriously started over three times trying to think of the right things to say about Night Visions, and I'm seriously speechless. As a debut novel, Elena Gray really has given herself a high expectation level with any upcoming novels. With mystery, suspense, romance and intrigue, Night Visions never wavered or fell short.

I love a book that just sucks you right in. Night Visions provides a certain "comfort" appeal that allows the reader to step into the shoes of the main character and go traipsing around with her on her haphazard journey to discover who - and what - she is. It's been what seems like a lifetime since I read it, and I still constantly think about the storyline. I look forward to being able to purchase this in print, and adding it to my bookshelf. It's definitely worth rereading again and again!

I'm desperate for more Elena Gray! I can't wait to see what else she has in store for these characters. Night Visions is easily a 5 star novel. It won't let you down!

Kelli McCracken Interview: Dylan and Layne

I'm so excited to have Kelli here this week with Dylan and Layne in tow. So many of us have fallen in love with these two men, and it's a privilege to have this opportunity to get to know them a little more intimately. I hope you all enjoy this interview they've all so graciously agreed to do for us!

First things first. Heaven's pregnant! EXCITING! Dylan, any comments on becoming a father?

I’m…astounded. I mean, finding Heaven was a miracle. The journey we’ve been on is amazing. Now this… (big cheesy grin). I’m excited. I’ve always wanted to have kids. The baby isn’t even here yet and I already love it with every beat of my heart. I wanna be the best dad I can be. Nothing like my sperm donor.

Are you concerned about the gifts your child will have due to your and Heaven's abilities and connection?

I’m not so much concerned as I am curious. My gut says it’s something special. Heaven has extraordinary abilities. I think mine are pretty cool, too. And our parents have some wicked powers. So he or she will be pretty gifted. It’s no secret that the pregnancy has given our connection a workout, but there are moments when I can…well, I better not say anything else. Just know that I know things about the baby that Heaven doesn’t yet. It’s good.

Do either of you feel Faith will be any kind of threat for Heaven or do you think she will fall out of the picture? Or will she come through for Heaven in her hour of need?

(Layne) I like to think we’ll never hear from her.

(Dylan) And I don’t think we’ve heard the last of Faith. She’s Heaven’s triplet. I don’t care how screwed up she is, Heaven loves her. Something is up with Faith. I just haven’t figured out what. I have a feeling it’s pretty big. If she actually comes through for Heaven, it will be a first. I’m not saying she won’t, but—

(Layne) She won’t. She’s too stuck on herself. (mumbles-bitch)

Layne, how are you handling the whole fiasco with Faith? We know your feelings ran deeper than even you were willing to admit.

Yeah, I think they did. More so than any of the other women I’ve been with. None of that matters, now. Faith made her decision. She has to live with it. I hate her for what she did to me. If Heaven hadn’t told me the truth…

I’m not the heartless bastard she thinks I am. If the baby had been mine and she’d kept it, I would have taken care of my kid. I don’t know that she and I would have stayed together. Especially with everything that’s happened. Not just between us, but with Dylan and Heaven. I don’t know if I’m meant to have a relationship.

Layne, how do you feel about your new role change? In book 1, you were a rock star that had the media and many women after you’ve taken on a bodyguard role that requires you to be close to do you plan to mesh the two roles?

The media and women still want me. That hasn’t changed. The only thing that has changed is me. None of that stuff is important anymore. Regardless if I play in front of thousands of people, or just a few, I’ll always be a musician. But, until we can figure out who is after Heaven, I don’t think music will factor into our lives. Not on the scale that it has in the past. It can’t. I wish I could tell you more.

As far as protecting Heaven… (shrugs) It’s what I was created to do. I guess in a sense I feel like I have a purpose now.

How did you two meet and become such good friends?

(Dylan) We were neighbors. Our moms used to get together when we were little and let us play. When we were old enough, we did it on our own. I can’t recall too many memories that don’t include Layne.

(Layne) Yeah. We got into a lot of shit together. We still are.

Dylan, you and Layne have been friends a long time... Can you handle the way he feels for Heaven? I know he is her protector, but it goes deeper with him and I think you know it too!

(Watching Layne fidget in his chair) You’re not the first person to ask me that. I know he cares about her. To what level, I don’t know. He said his feelings are platonic. I have to trust in his word. I hope it’s the truth, because Heaven is bound to me. Nothing can change that. I don’t want him losing it like my dad did.

To be honest, a part of me knows that if he has feelings for her, it means he cares about her almost as much as I do. So he’ll do everything he can to keep her safe. I have to accept his role in her life. As long as he fulfills his duty and respects the right boundaries, I can handle it.

Layne, what draws you to Heaven? Don’t you want to seek what Dylan and Heaven have instead of falling for her?

First off, know that I’ve been going through a lot with Faith and our breakup. It’s caused me a lot of confusion and made me do things that I…regret. I can’t explain what draws me to her. It’s just this feeling I get in here (points to gut) when I see her. Or think of her. I’d give my life for her. Would take a life. Have taken a life… It’s part of who I am. A Keeper. She has to be the most important thing to me. That’s why I said that I don’t think I’m meant to have a relationship. I wasn’t born to love. I was born to protect.

Do you think your relationship with each other will be mendable?

(Dylan)We’re working on it. (gives Layne a quick glance) There’s definitely tension between us. He kissed my girl. Trust me, I want to hate him, but for some reason, can’t. He’s always been here for me. I know he was going through hell when it happened, so I’m doing my best to forgive him.

(Layne) He’ll come through. He loves me too much not to get over it. (deflects a punch from Dylan)

How well is everyone holding up with all the craziness your mom and Heaven's parents dropped on you?

(Dylan) We’re dealing. Some days are good. Some aren’t. Imagine asking yourself the same question if you found out everything we have? It’s hard to wrap your brain around something like that. Layne and I have gone from superstardom to superpowers. It’s nuts. I think Heaven is struggling the most. Between reading energy and suffering with morning sickness, she hasn’t felt well.

For Layne... What are you going to do different so you don't turn into Dylan's crazy dad???

Just be me. I’m nothing like that whack job. He’s the one that gave into darkness. All because he couldn’t do what he was meant to do. Me…I’d do anything for Heaven. Even if it meant walking away from her for the rest of my life. I won’t do anything to hurt her. Ever.

Is there a plan in motion on how to deal with the inevitable threat that has arisen outside of Dylan's dad?

(Layne) Right now, our main focus is on protecting Heaven. We’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe. Even if we have to disappear for a while. I’m coming into my abilities. I’d show you a little trick, but I’m afraid of the damage I might cause. Like I said, I’m coming into these abilities. They are far from perfect.

(Dylan) My mom and Heaven’s parents are doing everything in their power to find out who is behind the threats. I still think all of this leads back to my dad, but we’ll see. I can tell you this much. When you read the next book, you’ll be meeting some new people with peculiar gifts. More revelations are coming to light, so be prepared for another roller coaster ride.

Don't forget to come back every day to get extra entries!

Review: Closer: A Novella

Closer: A Novella
Closer: A Novella by Dannika Dark

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I just finished Dannika's amazing novella, and I have to say I've never felt so many emotions from a novella! From excitement to heartache, misery to bliss! A fantastic little love story that fits so snugly with her Mageri series. I have hopes that Dannika will incorporate these characters within upcoming novels in her series. There's just so much potential there, waiting patiently just below the surface!

As a diehard fan of Dannika's, this novella does NOT disappoint! Thank goodness it was slow at my workplace today, so that I could give my undivided attention to this beautiful little number. And by the way, red has become my new favorite color! Want to know why? Read Closer. Highly recommended for ANYONE!

Review: Ember's Curse - A Prime Wolf Novel

Ember's Curse - A Prime Wolf Novel
Ember's Curse - A Prime Wolf Novel by Gena D. Lutz

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ember's Curse is absolutely enthralling! The voice of Ember is so easy to read, you feel like you're taking an her shoes!

I love the paranormal ideas behind Ember's Curse. There are so many of the loved, traditional creatures that have been created throughout history, but Gena has added her own personal touch to the concept of their existence. There's enough intriguing detail provided in the explanation of their makeup to be captivating without breaking the threshold into overpowering. Gena manages a beautiful balance in this story, drawing pictures with her words that help you "watch" the story unfold, all the while gripping the edge of your seat with a white knuckled grip. I laughed, sometimes hysterically; I cried, both in sadness and with joy. I cursed right alongside Ember and her mates, and mentally high-fived her countless times.

Ember's Curse is a breath of fresh air, brimming with action, love, mystery, and suspense. Don't forget the pinch of comedy. With realistic personalities in a world only found in a good book, Ember's Curse will not disappoint.

A special thanks to Gena for allowing me the opportunity to traipse about in her mind through this story. It was a grand pleasure to share in this little piece of her exposed soul.

Review: A Sinister Game

A Sinister Game
A Sinister Game by Heather Killough-Walden

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was really impressed with this book. At first, it was a bit confusing. But then I discovered that it was supposed to be. The pieces fell together gradually, adding a good level of suspense throughout the entire storyline, and I was constantly left guessing. Rarely have I read a book like this and been wrong with my guesses, but this book had me constantly going, "What?!?" I especially like the deeply engrained bit of Norse mythology that you don't actually walk in on until the latter half of the book.

This book was recommended to me, and it did not disappoint! I'll be looking for more works by this author.

Note: Sexual content included, and not intended for YA readers. For all those adult readers out there that like a complex love story entwined in an epic action and suspense novel, this is the book for you!

"Promo Spotlight: "Closer" by Dannika Dark

Kane never believed in things like fate or karma. Not until the night he took a life.

Within the human world is a secret society of immortals and gifted supernaturals. Kane is one of them—a Sensor who experiences emotional energy through touch. But despite his good looks and easy-going personality, Kane lives a solitary life. Unlike other Sensors, he is unnaturally hypersensitive.

Touch brings pain.

Fate throws a curveball when a woman’s life is placed in his hands. Kane is suddenly faced with a difficult decision, each with its own moral consequence, and time is not on his side.

Could she be his salvation, or his ruination?

Down in Texas, there's a woman who drinks copious amounts of vitamin water placed precariously close to her laptop. Yeah, I know. I've got a drinking problem. Hi, I'm Danni.

When I'm not writing (which is all the time), I'm listening to obscure music, watching movies, reading, discovering new ways to humiliate myself bowling, and burning up my laptop battery on the internet. I live with a cat who thinks she is a dog, or a goat (she eats plastic, so I'm not sure which).

Some people count sheep when they have insomnia. Since I was little, I used to make up stories in my head in a futile attempt to bore myself to sleep. The problem was, I'd get so wrapped up in my "head stories" that I would continue them through the following nights, changing it up each time to make it more exciting. Eventually, I started writing my ideas down more and more, creating short stories which evolved into poetry.

Lots and lots of poetry. It's almost embarrassing that I have an entire box loaded with spiral notebooks filled with furious, heartfelt, and blushing words. Apparently, I had a lot to say.

Another one of my hobbies is digital art. I designed all my book covers.

I am finally doing what I have always wanted to: giving my characters a pulse through publishing. I write adult urban fantasy romance, but I don't like labels. I let the story tell itself, and color outside the lines. I am not a YA author, but I think it’s pretty great that there are so many books available to teens in Urban Fantasy and Paranormal. These are the future readers!

The work that goes behind self publishing is hard work, I won't lie. On top of my regular day job: I write, edit, format, create cover art, and market.

But it's what I love to do, and someday, I'm going to be doing this full time.

Revamped Horizon Expansion

With a little encouragement and some determination, I've officially started my amateur Graphic Designing "career". Okay, that may be a bit of an over-exaggeration, but I have made my services public now. On my website, I added a new page called "Provided Services" that shows some of my work and has contracts for each service provided. I believe the prices set are reasonable. I don't claim to be a pro, but I've had several people tell me I do good work. If it weren't for them, I never would've taken this step. I also have a page set up on Facebook now for it, and I've decided to work under a business-type name, No Sweat Graphics. Look me up!

As you'll notice, I revamped my blog! I've been wanting to participate more in book blogging and Indie supporting, and decided the blog needed an overhaul to better fit said things. Now, I feel I can rightly blog about more than just my books and my life! One feature that'll be coming soon is an event calendar. Eventually, I'd like to have enough things lined up to have a decent schedule for my readers, and the calendar would show all upcoming events. Watch out, ya'll! I'm expanding my horizons! (For anyone who's interested in being on my blog, please email me.)

I haven't promoted it in awhile, so I thought I'd take some time to do so. On my website, I have a few pages for the more artistically inclined. My page, Highlighted Life, is for anyone interested in promoting themselves on my page. The information remains posted for a week, and at the end of the week, the individual's general information gets permanently moved to Talent Worth Recognizing. I also have a "buttons" page for those who have a "button" or image associated with their website/blog. For authors, I have a Read Recommendations page. All of these pages are to help promote and to support others in the art industry, not just writers. If you, or anyone you know, is interested in free promoting or cross promoting, please contact me.

On another note, I just wanted to remind everyone that my debut novel, The Seventh Layer, is only $.99 on In January, I intend to branch out and add it to Barnes and Noble so that Nook readers can also enjoy it. Jessie and my book, Love During Death, comes out on January 1st, and will be available exclusively on, for 3 months before we branch it as well. Love During Death is currently available on Goodreads to add to your TBR list. Keep up to date on progress by following me and/or Jessie on Facebook and/or Twitter (@whitesouljamma for me, @authorjessicah for Jessie).

Coming soon to the blog:
  • Character interview with Kelli McCracken! Kelli will be doing an interview with two of the hottest men in the reading world, Dylan and Layne. Don't miss it!
  • A sponsored blog stop with Dannika Dark! Come back on December 8th to check that out! (PS: she's my current FAVE author, and she's Indie!).
My three year old is pestering me about something involving TV, Spiderman, and the Hulk. No worries, though! I'll be back soon!!!
